The Society of Historic Mill Towns is hiring a part-time Communications Coordinator to produce newsletters and web updates for its 150 member municipalities and nonprofits.

About Society of Historic Mill Towns

The Society represents 150 municipalities and preservation nonprofits working on former mill-town revitalization, staffed by 6 people in Lowell. Members range from small-town planning departments to volunteer-run historical societies, and most of what the Society sends them arrives as a newsletter or a website post.

What you'll do

  • Write and send the Society's monthly member newsletter

  • Update the website with new grant opportunities, events and member news

  • Draft social media posts highlighting member revitalization projects

  • Interview member staff and volunteers for occasional profile features

  • Maintain the Society's media contact list and respond to press inquiries

  • Support communications for the Society's annual conference

What you bring

  • 2+ years of communications, journalism or newsletter-writing experience

  • Comfort interviewing municipal staff and volunteers on tight deadlines

  • Basic familiarity with a CMS or email platform

  • Interest in historic preservation or small-town revitalization

  • Strong copyediting skills for member-facing content
