Executive Director

The National Council of Building Officials is hiring its next Executive Director to lead a 9,200-member code-officials association through its first leadership transition in over a decade.

NCBO represents 9,200 code officials with a staff of 31 in Falls Church, Virginia. Executive Director Owen Castellanos, a NANA member since 2014, retires March 31, 2027, after more than a decade leading the council.

• Set NCBO's strategic direction with the board and staff leadership

• Manage a 31-person staff and the council's operating budget

• Represent NCBO before Congress and federal code and standards bodies

• Oversee the council's annual conference and regional programs

• Build relationships across NCBO's 9,200 member code officials

• Carry forward the transition planning handed off by the outgoing executive director

• Report to the NCBO board on organizational performance

• 10+ years in association or nonprofit executive leadership

• Experience managing a staff of 25 or more

• Familiarity with building codes, code enforcement or a related regulatory field a plus

• A record of representing an organization before legislators or regulators

• Comfort leading an organization through a founder-level leadership transition
