Fall Policy Forum 2024

Members joined the Fall Policy Forum both in person at NANA's Washington conference center and by livestream, produced by Cobbleridge Broadcast for the growing share of members who can't travel every November. Summit Hall Partners managed the venue.

Director of Public Policy Simone Radcliffe opened with a session-ahead briefing: what was moving in the incoming Congress, and where NANA's policy team expected to spend its time in the year ahead. The briefing ran without predicting outcomes on any specific bill — the forum's purpose is to prepare members to watch, not to promise what Congress will do.

Moira Kavanagh-Pratt, general counsel at the Society of Rural Hospital Administrators and an instructor in NANA's lobbying-disclosure compliance course, walked members through what tax-exempt associations should watch for heading into a new session — recurring proposals that narrow eligibility for 501(c)(6) status, and how associations have responded in past cycles.

A second session covered federal grant rules for association foundations, a topic increasingly relevant as more member organizations run scholarship and grant programs alongside their core membership work. The forum closed with an open Q&A, where Simone Radcliffe fielded questions on both topics and took several back to the policy team for follow-up.

The forum ran 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with the livestream available for the full session. In-person attendance is free for members; non-members pay $95. A recap and slide deck went to all registrants the following week.

The Fall Policy Forum is aimed at government-relations staff, general counsel, and executive directors who track federal policy for their own association, whether or not they can travel to Washington. The hybrid format exists specifically so members who can't justify a November trip still hear the same briefing as those in the room.
