Rocky Mountain Summer Quarterly (2026)

The Rocky Mountain chapter held its July quarterly meeting in Salt Lake City on July 23, 2026, as it does every year, rather than in Denver where the chapter's other three quarterlies meet. Chapter Chair Tobias Kren, who moved from Chicago to Denver in 2022, opened the day.

Kren checked in on the chapter's relocation welcome series, the peer program for staff moving to Denver or Salt Lake City, and asked attendees who had gone through it to share what the program still gets wrong. Nils Haverkamp, a NANA board director and executive director of the Guild of Freshwater Fisheries Managers, led a session on staffing a small, geographically spread association — his own guild covers state and tribal fisheries professionals across the mountain West with a lean staff.

The room closed with a peer benchmarking session on chapter budgets, comparing notes with the Southeast chapter's shared-services model as one option smaller Rocky Mountain member organizations were beginning to ask about. Hollis Greenleaf, executive director of the Rocky Mountain Outfitters and Guides Council and a two-person staff himself, said his organization had already joined the Southeast pilot remotely the year before and would field questions from any Rocky Mountain member weighing the same move.

The meeting ran 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with breakfast and lunch included, free for chapter members.

The July quarterly is aimed at Rocky Mountain chapter leaders and staff based in or near Salt Lake City, though any chapter member is welcome regardless of which of the four annual meetings they can attend. Members considering a move between Denver and Salt Lake City, or weighing a shared-services arrangement of their own, will get the most out of the day.
