The second brief in the State of Associations Quarterly series looks at event registration lead times: how many days before an event's start date members actually register, and what predicts a late registrant. Drawn from the same benchmarking survey behind State of Associations 2024, it finds that lead time depends far more on event length and format than on member tenure or organization size.

The brief compares single-day forums against multi-day conferences, and in-person against virtual formats, and closes with guidance on where early-bird pricing deadlines are landing relative to when members actually decide to attend. Meetings staff will find a specific finding here: registration lead time tracks event format almost exactly, regardless of the sponsoring association's size, sector, or region, which makes format the single most useful variable for setting a realistic registration timeline.
