This first data brief in the State of Associations Quarterly series looks at renewal timing: how many days before an invoice's due date member organizations actually pay. Drawing on early responses to the same benchmarking survey behind State of Associations 2024, it finds that renewal timing varies more by billing cadence than by organization size, and that a narrow band of "early payers" accounts for a disproportionate share of on-time renewal.

The brief breaks results out by billing structure — organizations on a single annual renewal date versus those that bill on each member's join anniversary — and flags where late payment clusters in the calendar. It closes with three practical steps membership staff can take before their next renewal cycle opens.
