State of Associations 2024 is NANA's first annual benchmarking report, drawn from a survey of 690 member organizations fielded with Fieldstone Data Partners between November 2023 and January 2024. Median membership growth held at 2.1 percent and median renewal came in at 93 percent across the sample, giving association staff a sector-wide number to compare against for the first time.
Results are broken out by sector, staff size, and NANA's six chapter regions, with additional data on staff turnover, non-dues revenue as a share of total budget, and the share of associations with a formal strategic plan. The report is intended as the start of an annual series: NANA plans to field the survey every year and build year-over-year trend data as further editions are published.
